For those interested in learning glass skills, the studio offers a variety of courses and classes in stained glass leading, copperfoiling and fused glass. Classes are available for all abilities. Classes are small and friendly. Prices start at £12.50 per 2.5 hour class.

Classes are held at our other studio just down the road from the shop.

Weekly Classes

If you already have had some experience and have a project you wish to undertake or simply would like to practice and develop new skills, such as fusing, painting and copperfoiling, you can join our small friendly weekly mixed ability classes. There is a Tuesday evening and a Wednesday morning class. If you have followed the beginners course with us or elsewhere the fee is £12.50 per 2.5 class paid termly, you will need to supply your own materials for your projects, which can be purchased from the studio.

New term starts September 5th 2011 – there is a place available in the Wednesday class for a beginner or intermediate student please contact Claire at the shop for further information and booking in.

Taster Days

Throughout the year, we offer taster days in stained glass or fused glass. In stained glass you will make a leaded panel and in the fusing you will make a glass dish. The fee for the stained glass taster day is £70.00 and for the fusing taster day £85.00. All materials are included in the fee. Take home a wonderful piece of work you have made yourself. A fun filled day is guaranteed.

Our studio

The glass studio is situated at the back of the shop. We specialise in stained glass design and build of leaded, copperfoiled and architectural stained glass for interior and exterior doors, windows and panels. We also undertake the repair and restoration of old stained glass.

All the stained glass mirrors, lamps, lampshades, hangings and gifts for the shop are designed and made on the premises.

No job is too large or too small. Come along to the shop and discuss your ideas.

Design & Build

You can commission Glass Designs to design and build any style and size of window or panel for your home, business or public space.

Work will be designed and built to your specific requirements. A wide range of styles can be undertaken from traditional period designs, such as Edwardian, Victorian and Art Deco, to original contemporary abstract, figurative, landscape or symbolic designs.

You may have a design in mind, which we can use our expertise to realise. We have an extensive portfolio of previous commissions and design reference books for you to browse.

Tiffany Lamps And Lampshades
From the studio we design and build Tiffany style lamps and lampshades for lamp stands or to be hung from the ceiling or as a free standing table lamp.

Repair & restoration

Using traditional methods and materials Glass Designs will restore and repair a panel to its original strength and beauty.

In old panels, over time, lead and lead cement becomes brittle, causing a panel to bow and buckle and consequently breakages in the glass and lead occur.

The panel will be removed and taken apart, the glass then cleaned, releaded, cemented and polished. Any broken glass will be matched as closely as possible to its original. Once repaired the panel will be as strong and fabulous as it was when first built.

If a panel has just one or two pieces of broken glass, this can sometimes be repaired in situ.

Resizing & Triple Glazing

Glass Designs can resize an existing panel either by reducing or increasing size using various methods. You may have found an old panel in a reclammation yard and would like it resized or redesigned to fit your home. Given all measurements Glass Designs can determine the options available to you.

Panels can also be resized or built from new to be incorporated into a triple glazed unit.

Mirrors & Gifts

The shop displays many styles and sizes of mirrors and glass giftware to purchase. Customers can commission mirrors and glass giftware based on their specific requirements.
